Once a neighbourhood Koay Teow Th'ng stall that has gained little fame among Penang hawker delight, Kio Ka Noodles has established a permanent shop in Lebuh Bishop (the second one at Icon City). The shop offers a variety of noodle dishes (maggie, koay teow, vermicelli) and etc), and the fun part lies within you can choose to have it with a variety of fish balls. On top of that, there are various snacks offered too. Overall it is a great choice to savour some local delight in a more sophisticated place (with air conditioner and proper settings) and the taste is appealing to Penang taste buds too.
Fu Zhou Fish Ball Dry Noodle (RM 12.70) |
Bursting Meat Ball Soup (RM 6.90) |
We had Fu Zhou Fish Ball Dry Noodle (RM 12.70). The idea of using thinner koay teow noodle was noble, as it offers a better mouth-feel and texture. Nevertheless, we felt the dry soy sauce seasoning was slightly short contributing the nice flavour to the noodle. There were inconsistency in the soup, as the second bowl of soup we had for the bursting meat ball was more flavourful and nice compared to the first bowl. We did feedback to the crew, and they responded perhaps the seasoning for first bowl was not done properly due to cooking for a bigger bowl.
Anyhow, we did enjoy the balls. Bursting meat balls are awesome with the curry meat filling, and just be careful with the squirting soup if you bite in too hard. On the other hand, Fu Zhou fish balls are equally good too.
Spicy Fried Noodle (RM 9.90) |
Homemade Lor Bak (2 pieces) RM 5.90 |
We enjoyed the Homemade Lor Bak (RM 5.90) very much. It has a nice taste, and the proportion of the spices to meat are well balanced.
