Dear Dino Cafe @ Penang Road, Georgetown, Penang

Dear Dino Cafe is a newly minted cafe cafe along the bustling Penang Road. To distinguish themselves from other cafe, Dear Dino Cafe offers a range of cold pressed fruit juices, along with a small menu of drinks and some options of snacks - potatoes and sandwiches. Almost every corner of the cafe is Instagram-worthy due to its modern and clean setup, and dining here is rather comfortable due to its spacious settings between tables and chairs. A niche group may find the concept of cold pressed fruit juices appealing, but the choices of snacks need some uplifting to make it more interesting for us.

Ballin' On a Budget

There are 5 varieties of sandwiches and potatoes offered in the petite menu at Dear Dino Cafe. Truth is that, not many cafe have invested a lot of efforts into potatoes dishes and Dear Dino is one of the very few. We had a Ballin' On A Budget (RM 18), a steamed potatoes stuffed with broccoli, corn, ham and melted cheese topped with sour cream onion. It is freshly made upon ordered, considering we waited for about 20 minutes before the food arrives.

The potato served was soft but we thought it could be made slightly mushier for a better overall texture. Seasoning could be improved as well as the potatoes tasted a little bold. The overall dish make senses when you have the potatoes together with the ham and sour cream onion, otherwise it tasted odd when individual elements are consumed separately. The cheese used, which we supposed to be raclette did not impress as it ended up as a separate layer on top of the potatoes.

Bae Brought Me Here

Meanwhile, the Sandwich - Bae Brought Me Here (RM 15) was alright. The toast was served warm  and crisp with grilled beef bacon and scrambled egg, accompanied by fries at side. Portion was relatively larger too. However, price seems to be a concern as RM 15 price tag may be a little steep for sandwich, even though we understand the location is prime and rental does not come cheap.

We had A New Leaf (RM 12), a mixture blend of green apple, spinach, cucumbers, lemon and parsley for the cold pressed juice. It was great overall, and I had a great detox at night probably due to the effect of the juice. Would like to come back for me.
