Rung Reang Thai Food Restaurant @ Jitra, Kedah

Jitra, the quaint town in the northern part of Kedah has plenty to offer apart from being a transition stop to Thailand or Perlis. Previously, we have stopped by here to sample renowned Thai food here, namely at 5 Utara & Sabai Dee and rewarded with great gastronomy experience. Then this times, we set food to another famous Thai restaurant here - Rung Reang. Although some food here were appetizing and delicious without causing much haemorrhage to wallet, we felt we should try more of the dishes here before able to arrive into a conclusive statement.
After travelling for such a distance for a food at particular restaurant, we splurged and ordered 4 different dishes - Tomyam Seafood, Kerabu Mango, Lemongrass Chicken and Stir Fried Kai Lan, which cost us RM 60 including rice and drink. It was a fair price in our opinion, as these dishes would have easily cost us up to RM 70-80 in Penang easily.

Kerabu Mango was appetizing. Mango was nicely cut into decent slices and maintained a firm texture, and the kerabu was fairly balanced in taste - sweet, sour and spicy. The dish surprisingly did not become watery after being left on the table some time due to photography. An absolute refreshing starter to have, though it was served after the vegetables and lemongrass chicken.

We thought the supposedly star of the night - Tomyam Seafood was an average dish. Do not get us wrong, as the seafood used in the tomyam were fresh and abundant in quantity. It was due to the tomyam soup was too acidic for our personal preference, and the soup gradually loses the heat as times goes by due to it was served using a normal bowl.

Meanwhile, Lemongrass Chicken was great. It was served in chicken cubes format and nicely seasoned to have the desired sweetness and aromatic scent. I was surprised there were so many chicken cubes in that plate served to us. Stir Fried Kai Lan was equally good in terms of taste too.

Then we were shocked after having a sip of their herbal tea! Probably they were on a mission to create a diabetic world. We practically left the whole glass there after having a sip.

Well, overall not a bad experience here but we thought we should come back again to have a try on their other dishes. Perhaps Kheng Som would make a good choice.
