Viking Steakhouse is a newly minted steakhouse located in Tanjung Bungah Penang. Featuring an elegant design, the steakhouse portrays a fine-dining atmosphere but the price is rather wallet-friendly. For instance, 100g striploin and ribeye only cost RM 22 and RM 32 respectively. For greater enjoyment, the steakhouse stores a range of wines for you to choose and pair it with steak for a moment of relish. It is a semi surf and turf steakhouse, as they recommend you to order red meat and seafood (which is served in 2 person portion) and share among 2 people. You can choose to dine in either at indoor or outdoor, as both settings offer an entire different dining atmosphere.
Thanks to Viking Steakhouse for hosting us
T-Bone & Striploin 100g (RM 22) |
Ribeye 100g (RM 32) |
You can pick between Australian Chilled Grain Fed Beef or Wagyu Beef for the steak. Either pick will come with a side dish and vegetable. Default sauce is brown sauce, and you can top up RM 3 for different sauces such as Beurre Rouge, Chimuchurri, Himalaya Pink Salt & Truffle Salt and etc. For our steak, it was done to perfect medium rare with brown on the outside and pink inside. Texture was great, juiciness can be felt instantly when it was crushed between the teeth. Have it slightly glazed with brown sauce for some sweet flavour but we would recommend choosing other sauces instead as it yields more flavourful combination.
For that price, it is certainly a great bargain at Viking Steakhouse.
Grilled Bamboo Lobster with Chimichurri Sauce, serving size of 2 (RM 188) |
Well, it is a surprise to know that Grilled Bamboo Lobster or Cheese Baked Live Boston Lobster are the most premium item in this steakhouse. Priced at RM 188, the grilled bamboo lobster is lightly seasoned with salt and pepper and glazed by Chimichurri sauce. We are amazed as they executive their Chimuchurri sauce greatly that comes with an aromatic scent of parsley and extra virgin olive oil. Though the chef added jalapeno to spice up the lobster but we felt it could be slightly tuned down to allow us fully relish the natural sweetness of the lobster.
Capers Cream Salmon (RM 39) |
If you were to enjoy some seafood yet did not wish to splurge on the lobster, then pick the Capers Cream Salmon with a wallet-friendly price tag of RM 39. Norwegian chilled salmon used was fresh, and it was purposely grilled to 80% doneness so you can enjoy the crispy skin with flaky and buttery flesh. Lemon capers and cream sauce were used to complement the salmon, giving a fair balance of zesty and richness. Serving size is standard at 180g.
Baby Lobster Aglio Olio (RM 39) |
Smoked Duck Breast White Sauce Spaghetti (RM 32) |
For some solid carbohydrate dish instead of proteins, Viking Steakhouse serves a number of spaghetti. We sampled their Baby Lobster Aglio Olio (RM 39) that comes with mild spiciness and an aromatic taste that yielded from the soupcon of White Chardonnay Wine. Otherwise, pick Smoked Duck Breast White Sauce Spaghetti (RM 32). The white sauce is actually carbonara sauce, which has great consistency and creaminess that is pleasant. It is lightly topped with cheese to give the spaghetti an additional buttery texture.
Hachis Reginherus (RM 22) |
Actually for best results, you should head for a 2-course meal that includes a starter. A few exemplary starter we have tried over here, and one of them is Hachis Reginherus (RM 22), a minced beef fused with mashed potatoes and served with their unique own prepared Viking's Espanyol Sauce. The minced meat itself is lightly seasoned, and fairly balanced with the slight sweetness from the Viking's Espanyol Sauce.
Venus Clams (RM 22) |
Tomato Chilli Mussels (RM 22) |
For some conventional choices, then you can pick Venus Clams (RM 22) or Tomato Chilli Mussels (RM 22). The Venus Clams comes with flavourful soup, thanks to the addition of soupcon of white wine but the spiciness can be slightly tuned down to allow maximum enjoyment of the clams sweetness. Tomato Chilli Mussels are best for those who prefer a milder taste that offers a low level spiciness followed by sweetness from tomato that will engulf your tongue. Both clams and mussels were fresh, and if you can pick a bottle of white wines to go with the venus clams that will be the ultimate enjoyment.
Salmon Salad (RM 28) |
Fruits and Berries Salad (RM 28) |
For greens, there are a few selection and these 2 we sampled are good. The Salmon Salad (RM 28) used greens of romaines and iceberg lettuce mixed with berries and cherry tomatoes, topped with fresh salmon cubes with homemade orange sauce for some zesty. It is infused with garlic to give a spicy touch to the overall sensation.
If you prefer a sweet selection, then the Fruits and Berries Salad (RM 28) would make a great choice. The honeydew bowl is filled with freeze fruits including orange, apple, strawberry, blueberry and blackberry then finished with honey yogurt dressing and almond flakes.
The creativity infused to the salad made eating salad ain't a boring task anymore.
French Onion Soup (RM 13) |
Viking Steakhouse did offer French Onion Soup (RM 13) that features clear soup of homemade beef broth and freshly cut onion. It tasted more like local onion soup for us, as the soup gives salty taste and comes with freshly cut and intact onion slices with pungent taste.
