If you were to enjoy delicious Malay fish head curry, then make your way to a modest stall - Eryna Cafe Curry Claypoat in Sungai Pinang, Balik Pulau. We agreed the stall is not located at mainstream location but the efforts travelling there is indeed rewarding gastronomically. Featuring only Ikan Jenahak (Mangrove Red Snapper), the fishes are mostly fresh catch. Most patrons here are after their fish head curry and you can have it served in claypot by sharing the curry among few people.
The popularity of curry fish here is so immense that people will be waiting at the dining area just for the curry fish pot to be brought out from kitchen. Once it is being put on serving table, people will throng the table and order the delicious dish of the day. Always check with the crew manning the serving counter for the availability of curry fish.
At the serving table, tell the crew your favorite fish part and he will get it with you along the delicious curry. Regardless of the inconsistency of the fish curry - some day it was sourish, while some day it was thicker, the curry was delicious. Fish is fresh and offers a lean and moist texture. It was a total indulgence with the curry and fish, at least for me.
Will I come back? Of course yes! Thanks to my friend who works in Balik Pulau for bringing me to uncover this delicious fish.
