Mews Cafe in Muntri Street serves authentic Malay food in a comfortable restaurant settings. Undeniably, restaurant settings Malay cuisine is scarce in Penang and Mews Cafe comes in nicely to fit in the gaps, particularly for those who pander in having local dishes in air-conditioned settings, though option of alfresco area is available too. Mews Cafe boasts about preparing their food using fresh local ingredients, homemade sauces and spices, and without the usage of monosodium glutamate. However, the price point would be slightly on a steep side.

Mews Mee Jawa (RM 26.45)

Cucur Udang (RM 16.80)

Mee Jawa in Mews would be consider as an upscale version of this traditional kampung dish. Priced at RM 26.45, it comes with yellow noodles, prawns, diced chicken, hard boiled egg, bean sprouts and bak choy served in a sweet potato broth. The broth provides a nice and smooth finishing to the noodles, much to our enjoyment.

Update: One of our reader updated us that Mee Jawa is no longer available.

The traditional Malay style prawn fitter - Cucur Udang also get an uplift in Mews. It it served along with tau kuah (bean curd), fish cakes, cucumbers and homemade peanut sauce, which done a wonderful job when glazed upon the various ingredients. Real prawns can be seen vividly upon cutting the crisp prawn fritters, justified its higher price tag should you need some good snacks in between meal.

Both drinks are great here. Mews also provide wine and liquor should you want to spend a relaxing evening here. There is a live music in the garden on Saturday evenings, starting from 8pm onwards.

    The Jawa Mee no longer in their menu anymore. Their cucur udang is one of the best snacks to have.

    Thanks for notifying.. too bad.. their Jawa Mee is equally good as well.

    Their cucur udang is indeed one of the best with quality ingredients that no where else offers!
