Western Australia Day 7 - Freemantle: Freemantle Street and Market, Blue Boat House, Dog Racing at Cannington

Probably we were drunk yesterday night therefore we had a soundless sleep and woke up late on our last day in Perth. Since we could not finish all the Angus beef sausages leftover from yesterday dinner (there were 6 pieces in a box), we used them for our breakfast and eat it along with bread. Using this way, we had some extra budget to splurge and enjoy scrumptious delicacies during our lunch and dinner.

Start of our day - bread stuff with cheese and Angus beef sausages, a cup of coffee and a milk. It might be a weird combination for the bread, particularly our ways of arrangements but it worked out well. The Angus beef taste beats everything.

Then we drove to Fremantle, a port city nearby to Perth.

One of the must visit spot as detailed by others' itinerary to Western Australia is Fremantle Prison, the only building in Western Australia to bestowed as an UNESCO World Heritage. Fremantle Prison's history can be dated back to British colonial time, and it is one of the most notorious prison in Australia.

Only guided tours are allowed into Fremantle Prison, and there are different types of tours offered with different price tags. The most affordable ones cost AUD 20 and there are specific departure time for the tour. We were unwilling to spend these AUD 20 and the waiting time somehow cancel our thought of visiting the prison, though it is a historical rich site worth to be visited.

Instead, we just went to have a fun photo shooting in one of the building right before the entrance to Fremantle Prison and acted as if we were in prison.

Fremantle street is an iconic place to visit, characterised by late Victorian and Edwardian architecture. Walking down the street gives a serene feeling when we are surrounded by England influenced architecture and pine trees.

There are a variety of shops on both side of the street, such as sex shop, second hand book shop etc. However, please watch out for parking coupon if you decide the spend long hours here as they impose a parking restriction time during certain period.

Head to Fremantle market, which offers a variety of goodies for you to shop. It is like a combination of both local and tourist markets, as there are fruits, coffee, food, drinks, handcrafts, arts and many other stalls housed in the same building. The place gets rather packed during our visit, and we could see quite a number of tourists here.

We spotted a kangaroo meat seller here and requested a sample for the exotic meat for trial. First times trying kangaroo meat ever in our life. It tasted like beef somehow but with a harder texture.

As Fremantle is close to the South Indian Sea, the shoreline of Fremantle city hosted a number of seafood restaurants and it would be a waste if you did not sample their freshest catch of the day. We went to Kailis Fish Market Cafe at first but was dissuaded by the large crowd there and the seemingly fast food ordering style, hence we drop by to Cicerello's instead.

Heavy rain coupled with strong wind started to pour and blow after we finished our lunch. We were practically drenched like a wet chicken but somehow, we enjoyed the chilling weather. Our weather report indicates the temperature was as low as 9°C in the afternoon. Once we back to Malaysia we will be treated with scorching hot weather throughout 365 days!

When the time still allows, we rushed to Shipwreck Museum within Fremantle to escape from the rain. Entrance is free of charge, and we get to understand more stories regarding Fremantle and Perth at the same time.

Some said a trip to Perth will be rendered incomplete if you never make a trip to the Instagrammable Blue Boat House, which is located nearby to Kings Park.

Parking may pose a difficult problem here as Blue Boat House is located directly beside highway. For our case, we park at the designated car park lot nearby and walked a distance there. Of course, we need to pay for the expensive car park.

So what is so special about this Blue Boat House?

Other than its unique story which you may google if you are interested, it is very Instagrammable. That is it! We were lucky as we could take our own sweet time to shoot desirable photos there, partly due to it was evening and the weather was chilling cold with a slight drizzle. Otherwise, there is a high probability we are in a long queue just for some photos.

It comes close to the end of our trip and we embarked to one of a kind destination in Australia - dog race in Cannington. Although we are not a supporter of dog racing nor having an idea how to do the betting, we were just here to witness the culture of Australians.

The elegant Greyhounds were seen going through some checking by the staff, possibility veterinarians prior the race, and the podium winner will have a podium stage for a photography session. For our case, we address it as a lone winner.

Our last dinner in Western Australia at Ciao Italia - one of the best and must go place for dinner in Western Australia. If you do not believe us, check out the above picture to have an idea on the queue waiting outside of the restaurant despite the rain.

Goodbye Perth! While waiting for our flight back to Kuala Lumpur in Perth International Airport, we spent the night snuggling in the couch at airport. It was freezing cold because apparently something went wrong with the airport and all the alarms were buzzing and gates were left open. Imagine the freezing wind blowing into the airport!

Lucky there were some snacks and strawberries for our supper for the night.

Till then, bye Perth and hope to see you again!
