Western Australia Day 6 - Perth: Caversham Wildlife Park, Chocolateria San Churro, Kings Park

Over the period of 2 days in Perth city, we checked in into an Airbnb nearby to Highgate and we were quite pleased with the host - Rosie. Though the room is small but she is nice and prepared everything nicely for us, including booking a car park lot, a list of recommended places to visit, and of course breakfast for us. As far as we are concerned, she hailed from Pemberton and is pursuing tertiary education in Perth, and signed up for Airbnb to make some saving for her upcoming trips.

Again, we started our Day 6 light with self prepared breakfast at home - Muesli (our favourite now with a cup of hot coffee). Rosie was kind enough to prepare some muffins for us. After that, we drove to Caversham Wildlife Park (opens at 9am). It is like a must visit place in Perth, though we felt the place was overwhelmed with tourists and make wandering around the park a difficult time. We preferred Bunbury Wildlife Park as a matter of fact, as it was small and less tourists around the area.

Entrance fees is AUD 27 for adults and the main fun things to do here is:
  • Feed the kangaroos. Feeds are complimentary
  • Take picture with wombats and koala. Check out the show time
  • Farm Show. Check out the show time too.

Basically, you can see a variety of animals, some exclusive to Western Australia only in Caversham Wildlife Park but be prepared to cramped with visitors, especially during the wombat and koala picturing time.

This is the queue just to get a picture with the wombat, full of tourists! We gave up upon seeing the long queue line. Not worth the wait.

There are a lot, a lot of kangaroos in the kangaroo field. No need to fight with other to get a kangaroo to feed as they are everywhere and not people-shy. Fees are located in various locations inside the feeding area, just grab some and naturally some kangaroos will approach you.

Show of the day - shepherding by the dog, sheep shearing, crack the whip, feed the milk, and milk the cow yourself! It is all free of charge and be sure to raise up your hands when they ask for volunteers. We were lucky to be squirted by the cow's milk when the people in front of us made the cow squirted it, and the cowherd was stunned too.

If you have some time to spare, nearby the Farm inside Caversham Wildlife Park are some picturesque spot. Just take your time slow to wander there.

Our light lunch for the day and it only cost AUD 1.99. We wanted to grab the famous Apple Strudel from Corica Pastries after the lunch actually but have to cancel the thought, as they only sell in big portion and impossible for two of us to finish it. If you really wish to try them, it is recommended to go purchase it on the first day and share among the family. Only available for take away.

Bearing the disappointment from Corica Pastries Apple Strudel, we headed for Chocolateria San Churro. Oh my, we loved the churros here! The chocolate dip was served hot and makes a perfect combination when dip with the crisp churros.

We had Churros for one AUD (8.95) which comes with 3 pieces of churros and a Death by Chocolate Cake (AUD 8.95), a big piece of dense chocolate cake which gives you a pack of chocolate punch upon deliver to your mouth. Totally irresistible.

Then we wandered around in the street nearby Chocolateria San Churro. Spotted a butcher's house nearby, and will be a good spot if anyone prepare to cook.

Next destination - Kings Park. A nice and scenic place to stroll around and laid back. It is very well organized and you may drive around in different part of the park and stop by anywhere you like. Many Australians bring their dog for a walk here during the evening.

Kings Park also serves as a good spot to take some sunset picture but the weather that day was not promising for a good shot.

The park also offers some great view at the nightscape of the city. The memorial statue is lighten up at night to give a different feeling.

Then we headed to Coles to purchase some ingredients for our dinner. That is how we travel in Australia in a tight budget. However, for this night we decided to go splendid and give ourselves a nice treat after having some quality steak yesterday night. We got ourselves some premium sausages - Angus Beef Sausage for AUD 9.90, topped with smoked cheese (AUD 4). What an awesome combination! We still could not forget the lingering taste of the Angus Beef Sausages today..

There we go for our dinner by pairing it with a bottle of Rosemary Wine for just AUD 6.00! The wine here is even cheaper than churros somehow! It was an enjoyable night, and marks the last night in Perth before we check out from the Airbnb and depart back to Malaysia. Gonna miss Perth somehow...
