The Hideout Cafe 60 @ Icon City, Penang

Bearing an unorthodox name, The Hideout Cafe 60 is located directly opposite of Iconic Hotel, appearing in a secretive manner to the passer-by due to its non-translucent glasses. However, the interior of the cafe offers a comfortable settings for a dine-in or afternoon chill-out, with plenty of electric sockets available should you need to charge your handphone or laptops and a crew of professional staffs dressed in smart uniform. Despite the standard cafe pricing, the desserts and coffee we had in that particular evening were not that impressive..

It was an evening meant for desserts after we had a satiating lunch at the Grand Orient Hotel Perai. The waffles series look intriguing from both the pictures and its name. While we agreed that the waffle texture for the Tropical Coconut Waffle (RM 17.90) was delicious, the coconut ice cream somehow was a let-down, and did not match well with the other waffles toppings and the strawberry sauce.

Coconut taste was totally absent in the ice cream and the only coconut traits we tasted was from the shredded coconuts. The other toppings such as peach, strawberry, pineapple and the strawberry sauce made an awkward partner with the coconut ice cream, giving a rather weird combination. Berries were alright as the topping though. We suspected they switched banana with peach on the toppings as the menu detailed on the presence of banana as toppings. Personally, we thought bananas or kiwis would make a better combination with the coconut ice cream.

The lady at the counter introduced us their signature cake - Naughty but Nutty (RM 15.90), which was big in size and packed with a lot of nuts. Apart from the nuts, there were nothing much to shout about the sponge cakes.

Flat White (RM 11.90) is another huge let down. We felt like we were paying RM 11.90 for a cup of coffee made from a random coffee machine using some maverick coffee beans perhaps. The coffee taste was bleak and no coffee aroma was present. Latte arts were absent yet we saw others' coffee were with latte art, albeit we know latte art serves merely for aesthetic purposes.

We drank the coffee grudgingly, and perhaps not a coffee here again anytime in near future. Hopefully the food serves here will bridge all the deficiencies we had today.
