Woo! Cafe @ Lorong Dewan, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Woo! is a contemporary, simple and modern cafe in Kota Kinabalu and serves well as a good hangout place. The location might be slightly concealed from the main roads but with the help from Google Maps or Waze, locating it ain't a uphill task now. Woo! cafe serves primarily western dishes and a range of drinks, including Matcha Latte by using pure Uji matcha powder, cold pressed juices and tea.

The cafe has a minimalist design with white paint on the wall, yielding a comfortable ambiance for a laid back afternoon. Upon stepped into the cafe, the staff greets everyone equally with a big shout of welcome.

Picking a choice for meal here is not difficult as the menu is filled with a number of appetizing dishes, such as baked pumpkin on toast and mushroom bruschetta for breakfast, a range of unique pasta such as unagi sauce salmon pasta, spicy Korean seafood pasta, steaks, lamb loin and some desserts. I was surprised to see the 180gm steak here is priced at RM 33 only.

Let's get it upfront first, Duck is always a challenge to prepare and execute. At Woo! Cafe, I was intrigued when spotted Confit Duck Breast on the menu, and the price tag of RM 25 really caught me  in surprise as it was not expensive.

Well, the duck breast meat was slightly tough and difficult to chew, and I would prefer the breast milk to be in sliced thinner. However, the taste was alight with more lean meat on the breast meat, something which I prefer. The duck breast sits on a bed of Bario (a type of Sarawak rice) risotto, which exhibited an unique fragrance but it was not risotto definitely due to the lacking of creaminess or richness of typical risotto should have. When eating along the duck breast with the sauteed vegetables (mushroom, french beans and corns), sweet potato puree, it tasted great.

Matcha Latte (RM 11.00) was alright in taste also, considering they are claiming pure Uji matcha powder is being used. Probably one of the best matcha drink available in the town.

Flat White (RM 10.50) was well brewed and possessed good coffee taste, an indicator that the other coffee here would taste good as well.
