Miga Korea BBQ @ Bayan Lepas, Penang

Miga Korea BBQ is a relatively new Korean restaurant near to Queensbay Mall and Bay Avenue that offers authentic Korean cuisine. The authenticity claim is solidified by the presence of Koreans operating the business though the service crews are friendly and attentive foreigners. It has a thick menu that features a range of Korean food such as Korean BBQ meat, Jjigae, Army Stews, Korean Noodles (Yes, Cold Buckwheat Noodles!), Samgye Tang (a rare sighting) and etc. A group of big eaters can go for their set menu, which we thought is more price worthy and can try an array of dishes.

As we were determined to try more variety, we picked Set A (RM 98) that comes with 3 different types of BBQ meat - samgyeopsal (pork belly), moksal (pork chops) and dwaeji galbi (pork ribs), haemul pajeon (Korean seafood pancakes), Kimchi Jjigae and 2 portion of rice. With just two of us, we were overwhelmed by the portion and could not finish all of it.

The servers will prepare, grill and cut the meats for all diners, as opposed to in Korea whereby we have to do it ourselves. All the meats were spot on, it was nicely seasoned and flavorful, and the servers barbecue the meat just to the nice texture for consumption. Interestingly, the barbecue pan has drain that serves egg custard, barbecue kimchi and corns.

On top of that, it is commendable the restaurant serves up to 9 different types of ban chan and we would say this is a very wide variety of servings.

Korean Seafood Pancakes
Both Kimchi Jjigae and Korean Seafood Pancakes are spot for flavor, much alike the original version we tasted in Korea. I am not a particular fan of Kimchi Jjigae due to its sharp acidic taste but the one serves here gives a smooth and unruffled taste with generous ingredients within. Korean Seafood Pancake on the other hand is well cooked with decent amount of scallions to elevate the taste. Add on the sauce to give it a more distinctive flavor.
