Mellowcup Coffee @ New Bob Center, Jalan Gottlieb, Penang

While majority of the cafes are amassing in the center of Georgetown thanks to the city UNESCO world heritage status, Mellowcup has established an unorthodox precedent by operating at an unpopular location. Nevertheless, their risky move has paid off as today Mellowcup is well known of churning the very scarce and finespun Ice Drip Coffee, and recently their menu has been revamp to appease the discerning tongue of Penangites.

Leveraging on pasta's versatility, Mellowcup has engineered a few interesting pasta. Those craving for Asian delight can be satiated by Seafood Tomyam Spaghetti (RM 25.80), a mild spicy dish with fresh tiger prawns and squid rings disguised with spaghetti noodles on pasta menu. 

Otherwise, the intense and rich Creamy Carbonara with Hot Spring Egg (RM 21.80) with balance of umami-laden cheese, salty and fatty bacon, with a touch of pepper flakes shall impress those having a young heart. Extreme tasters would be delighted with Spicy Garlic Clams (RM 20.80) that offers a stronger dose of garlic that mellowed in the presence of fresh clams. 

Health conscious individuals who prefer a protein based dinner have a range of dishes to choose from at Mellowcup. Our picks for the night are Slow Cooked Chicken Drumstick (RM 28.90) and Grilled Norwegian Salmon (RM 38.90). 

To achieve the desired taste, the tender chicken drumstick should be eaten along with dark garlic sauce because slow cooking has rendered all the essence flows into the sauce. Meanwhile, we sat enthralled when the generous portion of salmon was being served to our table. The salmon was fresh, and the creamy sauce introduces a tad of pleasant saltiness to the flesh. Kindly take note that it will take 30 minutes minimum to prepare the salmon.

Small eater can go for Mixed Green with Soft Shell Crab (RM 22.90) that has a fried soft shell crab sitting on a bed of salad. Such a healthy dish for those calories concerned individual.

Mellowcup features a page of Japanese bento set on its menu, partly attributed by a pool of Japanese population living nearby and the affection of certain patrons toward Asian menu. Wide selections of bento ranging from fish, chicken or vegetable (mushroom) are offered here.
