Spicy Lemak 辣死你妈 @ Beach Street, Georgetown, Penang

The bustling Beach Street in Penang gets another new eatery named Spicy Lemak 辣死你妈 in the month of August, serving one of the proud Malaysia delicacies - Nasi Lemak but in an upgraded and luxury manners. The nasi lemak is available in various set with different dishes, and the epicurean meal of their menu would be the Spicy Lemak 3 layers (RM 38.80), just alike the elegant afternoon tea set albeit with different nasi lemak dishes.

Exactly like an elegant afternoon high tea set, the three tier serving tray is arranged from the mildest flavors to the most intense dishes, though one does not necessary follow the etiquette of having afternoon high tea from having it from top to the bottom.

The top tier features the basic of every plates of nasi lemak - anchovies and salted peanuts, medium tier had some proteins and fibers laying such as hard boiled egg, cucumbers and okra, while the bottom tiers are the kings of the day with ikan lumpa (fried stuffed fish with sambal), chicken thigh, curry fish balls and loh bak (spiced pork rolls).

On our personal preference, we thought all the dishes sitting on the bottom tiers are mind blowing. The chicken thigh is juicy and delicious, loh bak is nicely seasoned and spiced, while ikan lumpa had pretty good sambal stuffed within. If we were to nitpick, it would be the slightly soggy anchovies and under fried peanuts which lack the intense or savoury factor.

The three coloured rice (red - dragon fruit, yellow - yellow flower, blue - blue flower) merely serve as photography purposes and lack of the relevancy to nasi lemak. The rice granules were too dried and we purely relied on the sambal to moisten it. In fact, we would prefer to be served coconut rice instead.

On the other hand, the sambal and chili are spicy and we definitely enjoyed it.

Durian Milkshake
We ordered a Durian Milkshake initially but the taste was somehow funky and lackluster. Upon realizing our perplexed facial expression when having the durian milkshake, the person in charge immediately attended to us and changed a cup of cendol to us.

Well, Spicy Lemak 辣死你妈 is a great place to hangout for some luxury nasi lemak if you have the budget to spare or looking for some Instagramable nasi lemak. If you were to ask us where are the best nasi lemak in Penang, we would still be recommending any roadside or market hawker stalls operated by Malay. No one else can beat them in terms of preparing the best nasi lemak ever.
