It was a surprise find in Gua Musang when we located this cafe randomly in the new township, Bandar Utama Gua Musang. Using a common name Ttea, we were mistaken that it was a bubble tea shop only but walking into the shop revealed it had a cafe settings, offering some coffee, bubble tea, waffles, spaghetti and some local delicacies.
Unlike the cafes in main town across the west coast of Malaysia that have lavish design and comfortable furniture, Ttea Cafe has very minimum touch up and have some basic tables and chairs. They feature a bubble tea take away stall in the cafe, allowing patrons to stop by to purchase some drinks without going into the cafe. Diners who wish to have mains can go inside the cafe after placing the order at the same take away stall.
Ttea offers a range of milk tea and coffee at a relatively lower price compared to the usual cafes in Penang which we used to go. For instance, Caramel Fresh Milk Tea cost RM 8.90 and Hot Matcha Latte cost RM 7.90. The milk tea was lovely with its chewy tapioca balls while Matcha is averagely good and not too sweet. Considering Ttea's location at a small remote town and cafe culture has not probably infiltrate here yet, the pricing strategy is understandable to get more public to spend here, as probably the town folks here would prefer to cook or drink at home.
The cafe features more of the common set meals, such as Value Set Curry Chicken (RM 9.90) which we had. The curry gravy is decent and not that spicy as we thought, and it is served along with a big chicken thigh. In fact, it was more like a nasi lemak set when eaten along with the sambal given.
We were taken surprised by the Caramel Waffle Special (RM 9.90) because it was even better than some of the expensive waffle we had in certain cafes. The waffle is baking into perfection with crisp skin and fluffy texture. It matched well with the vanilla and chocolate ice cream, and the caramel on cream gave the waffle more creamy texture. Honey was abundant and it filled all the corner of the waffle yet not over sweetened.
Considering a few cafe setup in Gua Musang such as Indigo Cafe and Hana Coffee Station have ceased operation, we hope Ttea can sustain their business.
