While my geography knowledge in high school tells me that Mekong river run through a few countries in South East Asian, this restaurant at Jalan Burmah is actually serving Vietnamese dishes. Mekong Vietnamese restaurant is one of the a few Vietnamese eateries in Penang that housed within an air-conditioned settings. It also provides a much extensive menu instead of just featuring Pho, spring rolls and Vietnamese coffee only.

Grilled Meat Vermicelli with Spring Rolls (RM 15.90) |
Caramelized Pork Spare Ribs (RM 15.90) |
Instead of our usual Vietnamese selection such as Pho or Banh Mi, we ordered some Vietnamese stir fry dishes to sample. Their spring rolls took a greater height by serving it along with grilled meat and vermicelli, then garnished with the usual shredded lettuce, cucumbers, carrot slices and peanuts that appear in Vietnamese dishes. The grilled meat is well marinated and tender, then the spring rolls are decently fried to perfection too. In fact, you could get your stomach full by just having this dish alone thanks to the bedding of vermicelli.
The caramelized pork spare ribs are well seasoned and pack a bunch of rich flavor. However, we felt the pork ribs probably were overcooked, resulting a very tough texture. Otherwise it could be a perfect dish.
After two carnivorous dishes, we had another partial vegetarian dish - Grilled Eggplant with Minced Pork (RM 13.90). We were impressed how they blend eggplant well with the minced meat, as eggplants are a tough piece of vegetable to handle. The only thing to be mindful is to eat the dish fast, otherwise risk the eggplants get too greasy by absorbing the oil from the minced meat.
The Vietnamese Iced Coffee (RM 8.00) is never disappointing with its richness of coffee scent.
