新南发 is a popular name for Chicken Rice stall in Penang and its franchise shops have been blooming across Penang. However we did notice there are slight variation in their English name among the stalls. Some are known as Sin Nam Huat while some carry the name Sin Lam Huat. The fact is we are unsure what are the real differences between these 2 names.
On a random occasion, we bumped to this Sin Lam Huat chicken rice in Relau's Golden Lake Coffee shop. It is very popular among the patrons to the coffee shop, to the extent the stall practises a numbering system for ordering.
The above mixture of chicken, roasted pork and char siew for 2 person, along with a bowl of chai boey cost us RM 14, which is pretty reasonable. We loved the meticulously cut meat, its texture, and the sauces glistening the meat.
The chai boey's taste is finely tuned and matched our preferences. It was not over pumped with acid and the spiciness level was not too excessive.
Overall, it is a good destination to stop by for a lunch stop provided you are willing to spend 10-15 minutes for waiting.
