Nasi Kandar used to have a different terminology in Kedah. They are known as Nasi Lemak or Nasi Tomato. I was little bit puzzled when I cannot find any traditional Nasi Kandar stalls when I first comes to Kedah..
Back to topic. If you are looking for your a decent nasi kandar in Alor Setar, you can try Nasi Tomato Majeed. I would consider it as a hidden gem in Alor Setar, as only local folks patronize this food stall yet they serve toothsome Nasi Tomato. Besides, this stall operates as early as 5:30am in the morning, providing an excellent choice shall you suddenly crave for a plate of scrumptious rice flooded with curries.
As the restaurant name suggested, they serve nasi tomato solely as I did not see plain rise was being offered. Dishes choices are limited here, hence I picked a piece of chicken and a portion of lady's finger, requested for extra gravy (kuah banyak), which comes to a total bill of RM 6.
What I like here is their aromatic dahl gravy. It matched the tomato rice well, imparting a flavourful scent. Comparing to curries, dahl does give a less sinful feeling.
