Artichoke Cafe @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang

There is a cafe named Artichoke Cafe in Butterworth, giving an impression that the dishes were designed revolving artichoke. Nevertheless, it is just like a cafe next door, offering an array of no-frills western dishes and desserts. All the edible items are cramped onto the one page menu, while drinks are separated into two pages, allowing a much direct decision making process.

When juggling across the pasta selections, Chorizo Sausages (RM 21.00) was the one that manage to catch our attention. The spaghetti noodles were cooked to al-dente, topped with small tomatoes, broccoli and slices of Chorizo sausages, then drizzled with cheese powders and shredded scallions. We thought it was reasonably priced at RM 21.00, considering Chorizo sausages never come cheap. However, the sausages were too salty for our liking, otherwise it would be an ideal meal.

The server recommended us their Homemade Pork Patty (RM 20.00) when we were hesitating over there over the choice of meal, citing it was one of their popular dish among its patrons. We hold no grudge against the burger actually but were kinda let down by the bun's charred appearance. The patty was well done, juicy and succulent. Served alongside with the burger were a cup of fries and a bowl of tomato sauce on the wooden platter, and we thought chili sauce was a more matching sauce for the meal actually.

We ordered Creme Brulee (RM 12) and was shocked when it was served to us before the meal, giving us such a hefty sweet start for the day. Ignoring about the sequence of serving, the top layer of the creme brule was over burnt, and was more than crunchy for our liking. Nevertheless, the taste of the custard deserve a thumbs up. Aromatic egg with light vanilla scent coupled with the smooth texture made this simple dessert the king for the day.
