No Eyed Deer @ Prima Tanjung, Penang

No Eyed Deer has been operational since 2000 at Prima Tanjung and still standing strong today. They serve mainly Western dishes but a few non-western signature definitely stood up, for instances Laotian Laksa and Coffee Jelly. Though the name coffee jelly might appear simple, but it came with prestigious award - voted as 'Best Jelly in Malaysia" by readers of "The Star" Newspaper on 23 March, 2008. We were at No Eyed Deer during a Saturday lunch hour and this modest stall was packed by customers.

Patrons can choose either beef or chicken version of Laotian Laksa (RM 13.80). Not to confuse it with Penang version of laksa, the Laotian Laksa here taste alike Penang curry noodles, albeit with the reduction of coconut milk taste while maintaining the aromatic soup. The soup is furthered boasted by a mild burning sensation and the addition of basil leaves. Ipoh Hor Fun was used instead of the fat starchy noodles, altogether with a handful of bean sprouts in this bowl of scrumptious laksa.

We spotted a newly launched item on the menu - No Eyed Deer's Summer Noodles (RM 9.80). It used the vermicelli noodles usually serve in Vietnamese dishes, and matched it with a large quantity of shredded carrots and lettuces, which made it a healthy choice for dietary fibers and carotenoids supplies. Succulent and tender chicken breast meat topped the noodles and it was well sauced up. Stir everything prior eating, and the presence of peanuts particles in every bites of the noodles furthered enhanced the overall experience.

Then it comes the award winning item - Coffee Jelly (RM 8.80). It was served on a pool of silky fresh cream and syrup, somehow it tasted like vanilla ice cream to us. The jelly had strong coffee taste, akin of the Kopiko candy. Mix the cream and jelly together and it yielded a very unique and pleasant taste.

Then it comes the Tiramsu (RM 10.80), which we have long searched in Penang for some decent Tiramisu. A strong rum kick was vividly tasted, and genuine Mascarpone cheese were used.

We had a cup of Brewed Coffee (RM 6.20) here and it tasted a tad bitter.
