Miscela by Woosh Coffee @ Beacon Concept Gallery, Jalan Sungai Pinang

The lifestyle of sipping and enjoying a cup of coffee had furthered heightened in Penang by the presence of a portable coffee caterer - Woosh Coffee. They are currently present in INTI International College Penang and inside Beacon Concept Gallery by Aspen Group, Jalan Sungai Pinang. Passer-bys might not aware of presence of such simple yet serving sophisticated cups of coffee at their kiosk in the Beacon Concept Gallery, but it is definitely worth making a stop here. They are serving various types of Arabica coffee including hand brewed coffee, while those wanted something to fill the stomach could go for cookies or pastries. 

The barista was full of passion when we asked for his recommendations for a cup of hand brewed coffee. He asked for our taste preferences and then delineating on the taste portfolio of each of the beans. After some thoughts, we went for Ethiopia Yirgachefe Boloso Areka beans. Forgive us, we have limited knowledge on the coffee beans and just possess the taste portfolio the barista detailed to us. For this type of beans, it comes with a much complex flavour while yielding scented floral.

As for the brewing method, Woosh Coffee is currently practising Aeropress method. I believe coffee connoisseurs would be able to tell the differences more than I able to. Put it in a simple way I understand, instead of relying gravity to pull the water like filter coffee, Aeropress coffee allows a better control of mixture timing between the coffee beans and water, providing a better control of the taste and bitterness. However, the individual taste preferences matters in the end of the day. 

For this cup of coffee, we were briefed to sip it about 30 seconds and 1 minute upon serving for a richer taste, and the aromatic scent gradually reduces as it cools down.  

Some interesting items we spotted on the menu were Dirty Matcha Latte and Dirty Chai Latte, which were mixture of espresso with matcha and chai respectively. We ordered a cup of Dirty Matcha Latte (RM 12), which had mixture of medium roasted coffee beans and the matcha tea leaves. It yielded an equilibrium taste between espresso and matcha, with the aromatic espresso was felt initially then ended with the bitterness of matcha lingering on the tongue. Perhaps for ardent matcha lovers this might not be their cup of tea but it was a new trying and taste pleasing for us. Dirty Chai Latte on the other hand is believed to yield a much complex spice portfolio.
