CS Cafe @ Cinta Sayang Resort, Sungai Petani, Kedah

During our short stay at Cinta Sayang Resort, we were treated with an amazing lunch and dinner at CS cafe with a full course meal for dinner - soup, appetizer, main and ended with a sweet dessert. The whole setting was alike replica of a fine dining environment by serving the food one after another, with a major difference that the food was serve in relatively larger portion compared to conventional fine dining. Having said that, we were pampered with a scrumptious dinner and ended up with a bloated stomach.

We were totally caught in shock the moment we were served the Crispy Prawn (RM 18) salad. The portion was gigantic with at least 15 fried prawns within, coupled with roasted capsicum, mixed lettuce, green apple slices, cashew nuts and topped with orange vinaigrette. Our palm's size was smaller than the bowl size even. The prawn was fried to well crisp and uttered crackling sound upon biting, then was salted to the right level to open the appetite. Imagine watching your favorite movie while snacking with this crispy prawn throughout the movie time, what an delectation!

The other appetizer we had were Smoked Salmon & Feta (RM20). In fact, we would regard this dish as main instead of appetizer, considering the huge slice of salmon that was served. Encircled by the thick salmon slice was a chunk of lettuce. For a much sophisticated food pairing, fete cheese, black olives, capers and gherkins to yield different complex flavor. Vinaigrette can be used as a dressing for the salmon slice, though we felt it somehow mask the pleasant fresh sensation.

Seafood Soup (RM 12) had a significant quantity of fish and prawn swamped within the soup. The soup itself was creamy and mushroomy, though still nicely scented with seafood smell. If we were to do a head to head comparison, it tasted like Penang hokkien mee / prawn mee.

We were never a fan of Oxtail Soup (RM 16) but we decided to go bold this round. It looked the the typical Indonesia Bakso soup with murky appearance, and was heavily scented with sliced garlic. Seasoned it with the different spices served at the sides for a total different taste.

Coconut & Pumpkin Soup (RM 8.00) was a good bargain with its price. Both coconut and pumpkin taste was vividly tasted. It was served alongside with parmesan croutons but dripping it to the condiments itself somehow altered the originality nice taste of it.

Roasted Tomato Soup (RM 8.00) was heavily salted but come with a nice and rich tomato flavour.

During lunch, we had Grilled Salmon served with turmeric layer potatoes, butter zucchini and passion cream sauce. The idea of having sourish passion cream sauce with salmon was newfangled to us and it turned out to be pleasant. The whole chunk of salmon meat was succulent and fresh, and it was sufficient to fill an empty stomach with this protein rich dish.

We had a medium well Grilled Beef Tenderloin which served with asparagus puree, Harissa Roasted Potatoes and Herb Butter. The puree well complemented the succulent and tender steak, and in fact providing a sight of green helped to reduce the sinfulness of such carnivorous diet. Initially we thought cheeses were sandwiched between the steak but it turned out to be herb butter. The texture was alike yogurt and added a cushioning smooth and creamy layer to the tender meat.

For just RM18, the Homemade Chicken Burger truly worth the price. The patty was well done and accompanied by well seasoned lettuce and onions. Homemade bun indeed scored an extra point for the dish. However, the wedges were fried to charred and a control of the frying time would be needed.

Grilled Lamb Rack (RM 36) probably needs some fine tune in term of the doneness. Although it appeared to be done medium well but we thought it was overdone, resulted in an unpleasant hardness on it. Nevertheless, it appeared to be well seasoned as we could taste the nicely scented lamb rack over there. Perhaps during ordering, we should have told the kitchen we wanted medium rare instead.
