Ya Kun Kaya Toast @ Singapore

Ya Kun Kaya Toast is a franchise business model origin from Singapore. To date, its presence can be traced to a few Asia countries such as Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia and even South Korea. As we have an evening to spare, we dropped by one of the Ya Kun Kaya Toast restaurant in Singapore for a tea break while at the meantime to try out one of the most prominent traditional style coffee from Singapore.

Currently, there are many branches of Ya Kun Kaya Toast in Singapore and we are unsure which outlet is the first establishment. Nevertheless as they are practicing franchise business, we believe their quality should be on par with each other.

Everything is self service here. Place your order at the counter and you will be given a vibrator. When it vibrates, just go to the collection counter to collect your food. Some steamed bread may take a slight longer time to prepare, which actually tell you everything is prepared fresh on the spot.

For best saver in tea break, go for the Value Set Meal. It comes with a cup of coffee, a bowl of half boiled egg and bread of your choice.

The Hainanese style coffee was above average and well brewed. Egg was made to achieve the right half boiled texture as well.

The forte of the shop lies within their kaya paste actually. It exhibited good consistency and natural fragrance,  most importantly the sweetness level was fine tune and not artificial. We had their Cheezy French Toast with Kaya, which has a slight salty taste due to the cheese.

We simply fall in love with their Kaya Peanut Steamed Bun. It was served piping hot directly from the oven till our finger could not get a right grip on it due to high temperatures. When put into the mouth, the steamed bun was fluffy and soft till it almost melted naturally without any biting, akin like marshmallows. Spread of kaya was rich that it overflowed from the bread but honestly we wished for more of it.
