Tavern in the Park @ Hin Bus Depot, Penang

Updated on 12th February, 2017: Tavern in The Park has ceased operation. This place will be replaced by Shia's Homemade Granola and Buu's Kitchen.

Used to be an abandoned bus depot, it has evolved into an art centre exhibiting artistic production, and featuring a cafe within the vicinity - Tavern in the Park. As the name suggested, the cafe is surrounded by greenery, and romance totally brewed up when the it is lighted up at night. On top of that, it is a great place to snap some photo and share on Instagram as well.

Though the cafe has a glamour name, the menu and service have been relatively simpler. There was only a page menu, and ordering has to be done at the counter. Nevertheless, they do serve some simple yet great food here.

The Italian appetizer - Crostini is available here for RM 19.50 (3 pieces). Just to give a heads up, crostini are small slices of grilled or toasted bread with toppings. This implied that the success of this appetizer lies what topped the bread. After all, what could be so great about a piece of toasted or grilled bread right?

Tavern in the Park offered an array of choices for the toppings, and we went for Smoked Salmon, Three Mushrooms, and Smoked Duck. Amazingly, all 3 toppings were well appeased to the taste buds. Though we felt the pinch by paying RM 6.50 per piece of crostini, but trust us it is all well worth. It is not wrong to pamper and indulge yourself once a while, isn't it?

Shirleen was appalled when I about to order Chicken Wasabi Mayo Burger with Fries (RM 18.00), due to the word "wasabi". Despite the resistance in the beginning, she fall in love with the weird combination of this burger and its sauce. The wasabi scent was not that strong as we thought but just to add a hint of pungent to the burger.

And yes, we loved the fries too. Who does not love well fried fries?

I was in little stun mode upon served the Cold Brew Black Coffee (RM 13.00). It is served in a glass water canteen, like those being used by Western cowboys to store their alcohol. It was kinda cool to drink the coffee in such a way. And mind you, the coffee is bold and strong in taste. Be prepared for a sleepless night if you are not an avid coffee drinker.
