The recent outbreak of new restaurants in Penang has seen Ginza Japanese Restaurant opened their branch at Vantage, Tanjung Tokong after we first encountered it at Alor Setar. Sushi purists would be delighted with its presence at Penang, as Ginza offers exotic Japanese dishes such as Fugu, and the fresh and premium seafood is air-flown from Japan within a 24 hour time window every week. This pretty much justfiy the slight higher price tag on their dishes.
It is difficult to say no to the enticing Fountain Roll (RM53.80) illustration, and the Wagyu beef cresting the rolled prawn tempura is even irresistible. The highly marbled Wagyu beef possess unique taste and tenderness, making an unrivalled eating experience. Its texture was alike a soft cream and fat slither through your tongue. Make sure the spicy mayo was fully employed to enrich the sushi roll taste.Ā
Salmon Chahan (RM13.80)Ā was decently fried. The rice granules were clearly distinguished among each others with salmon flakes stuffed within the rice volcano, still vividly tasted though to give you a hint of salmon scent in the mouth.Ā
The Kimchi Nabe is quite a bargain with the price tag. With just RM 29.80, we got ourselves a bowl of piping spicy hot kimchi soup loaded with 2 prawns, a handful of pork slices, vegetables and tofu. Nevertheless, it could be better if the sodium content in the soup is reduced, given the saltiness could felt at the serving of the soup.
Ten skewers choice are available and we picked Tori Kawa (RM3.00) and Tsukune (RM 6.00), which are chicken skin and chicken meatballs for sampling. We love Tsukune as it gave a rich meaty texture and filling, satisfying the lust and crave for the appetite. Meanwhile, the grilled chicken skin is crispy but oily though. Both skewers tasted great without adding any lime, in fact adding of lime may alter the originality of the taste.
The pickles is lovely as appetizer! Never we had sampled such pickled cucumbers!
