Durian High Tea @ 2PM Lounge, G Hotel Kelawai

Indulge in a different way of enjoying the king of the fruits, Durian by savouring Durian High Tea at G Hotel Kelawai! Being the first hotel in Penang to offer such delicate and exotic high tea set by featuring the savoury snacks made from durian, durian fanatics like you would not want to miss this chance! It is available seasonal only as we are informed.

The Durian high tea set is priced at RM60, and it comes with a pot of tea of your choice and a dainty 3 layers plate with most of the savoury snacks encircled around durian. 

The first layer features durian puff, durian mille feuille and durian cakes. The durian scent is not as strong as we thought but still manage to give a significant durian smell when we burped. The mille feuille tasted fresh as it was light and flaky but somehow we feel the durian paste sandwiched between the puff pastry just does not click well.

Both the durian egg tart and durian rolls are very refreshing in terms of taste as we never thought durian will be served in such settings. 

The pandan scone is best eaten with the durian jam provided. We are surprised that chicken sliders are served here as it has nothing to do with durian. Nonetheless we have to say the chicken sliders are good, and perhaps it serves the role of neutralizing the feeling of too much durian.

The high tea does not just end here. There is a final serving of deep fried durian ice cream, with a slight crisp outer layer and cold durian filling inside. Be careful when cutting them though otherwise you will end up with the splatter of durian cream on your shirt. 

Relax yourself in the afternoon by sipping the tea from the exquisite tea cups with the tea of your choice.
