There is a White House in United States of America, serving as the principal office and residence for the POTUS and the White House in Penang, Malaysia serves as a Fusion Cuisine & Wine Lounge. Located at the current hot spot in Penang - Automall at Persiaran Karpal Singh, White House provide the patrons some exquisite fine experience with a rather affordable price.
White house is currently running a lunch promotion set for RM12.90 only with a selected main course and a cup of selected drink.
Thanks to White House, Samuel and Angeline for inviting and hosting us.Â
The dishes here are actually Western recipes with French twists, that is the reason the food were served in a form mimics to Haute cuisine, characterized by meticulous presentation and elements such as porcini, mashed potatoes and shallots.
We started the evening with an appetizer with Pan-seared Queen Scallop (RM15.00). The searing process made the measuring 7cm scallop demonstrating a slight crispy outer layer while retaining the soft and chewy inner texture. The mango tomato salsa dressing has given the scallop a hint of sweet taste coupled with the sour sensation from white wine and garlic sauce, best suit with Malaysian taste buds' preferences.
Indeed, the sour taste has provided a good start for other main courses.
For every bowl of pasta there is great sauce, that is why we love having the Pumpkin and Lamb Baked Pasta (RM20.00) at White House. The fusilli were baked with cheese, then coated with sweet pumpkin puree and stew lamb, topped with a layer of mashed potato. On a personal experience, we felt fusilli is a great choice of pasta being used because it gave some springiness on biting, balanced by the soft mashed potato.Â
On top of that, the pumpkin puree clings well with the fusilli, while the cheese also emulsified and blended perfectly to them. The stew lamb was cut in small pieces and possess no gamey smell, perhaps masked by the cheese well. For ardent cheese lovers, they would definitely love more cheese powders to be added.
Next up is Kahlua Coffee Pork Stew (RM 28.00), with pork belly braised in a pot of Kahlua, which is a coffee-flavored sugar-based liqueur from Mexico. Although Kahlua is alcohol based but the heating process might have evaporated most of the alcohol, leaving the light scent of coffee Kahlua infused to the pork bellies. This has rendered the tender juicy pork possess an aromatic light coffee scent.
Fret not, pork bellies may sound unhealthy but we were informed the fats have been drained during processing, leaving only the texture of the fatty parts.
Served together with the pot of pork stew is a small tower of mashed potato with mirepoix.
When we were served the dish, we thought it was some sort of French baguette topped with flakes. It turned out to be Pan-roasted Banana Crust Chicken Breast (RM 20.00). The dish best suit for health conscious individual as the roasting process rendered the chicken breast contain virtually little fat. The idea of putting banana puree on top of the chicken breast is marvelous as it gave the tender breast milk a smack of sweet taste, and at the same time moisten the chicken breast milk making it even better sensation for biting.
There is a small cup of BBQ sauce provided at the side to spice up the taste. It is up to individual to add the amount according to his own preference.
Cheese lovers should not miss out their Cherry Crumble Cheese Cake (RM 12.00). For your information, the cake is their own made so you would not find it elsewhere. The cheese was extremely pleasing to the taste buds. Creamy, soft and buttery, it melts within seconds in the oral cavity.Â
The cheese and berries layers are made extraordinary with the topping of nut crumbles and layering of biscuit crumbles on the bottom. Remember to add some cream cheese to every spoon of the cake to give some extra kick in the taste.
The banana rich drink - Banana + Banana & More Bananas (RM11.90) smoothie drink enticed banana lovers into temptation by just looking at its names. It is packed with smacking flavors of bananas, mixed with vanilla ice-cream and yogurt.Â
Pink Perfection (RM10.90)Â is a premium juice blends of strawberry, orange and watermelon. It is essentially nice to quench the thirst when the weather is hot.
Rose Flower Tea would be a great choice to neutralise the tongue and taste buds after the heavy main dishes, giving a total refreshing mouth preparing for the desserts. A small flame is there to ensure the tea is kept hot.
Well, you may feel weird as there is no wine served although this is a wine house. For your information, White House is providing an upgrade of your menu to enjoy a glass of house wine and a bowl of soup of the day for RM 15.00. If you are not a fans of wine, pick the upgrade for a cup of fruit juice and a bowl of soup of the day for RM 8.00.
If you would like to handpick your own wine, do have a scroll through their wine menu. Beers and sisha are available too.
