Tai Buan Porridge 大满清香粥 @ Lebuh Muntri, Penang

Tai Buan Porridge 大满清香粥 at Lebuh Muntri unarguably serve one of the best Teochew porridge in Penang. Housed in an retro shoplot, hordes of people will storm into here during peak hours. There are only a few side dishes available for selection and all of them were awesome.

A fulfilling lunch! From top right, braised egg, pork innards, fried egg with preserved turnips, pork belly and braised duck

Each person will be served a bowl of teochew porridge, with the granules of rice still vividly tasted. It was well cooked and was not over moist. Big appetite eaters might need another bowl though.

Pork belly has a distinctive three layered meat and the fatty part is not excessive, just hitting the mark to provide essential chewiness to the pork belly. Faulty pork smell was not scented indicating the pork belly has well braised.

We just love their fried egg with preserved turnips. Tai buan's version of this dish is marginally different from others as the turnips are well heaped beneath the fried egg, yet the two layers are inseparable. It was well salted and not over salty, and a piece of this seemed insufficient to crave our yearning for it.

Tai Buan's pork innards are one of the best in town. I hated pork innards so much as I deemed they are gamey, unhygienic possess this displeasing powdery form. Over here, their pork innards are totally antonyms of what my thought on pork innards. It is well braised and decent smell has lingered to every part of the pork innards, and the bad smell and atrocious powdery form are totally absent! I have picked my courage and at least consumed more than 5 pieces of this lengthy pork innards, what an astonishing achievement for myself.

Total cost for 2 bowls of Teochew porridge and 5 types of different side dishes cost us RM22, which I think was reasonable and worth the price tag.

Another thing I noticed is that the senior chef is responsible for chopping the side dishes while the young chap is in charge of pouring the condiments to all the dishes. The condiments have played a major role to heighten the taste of all the side dishes.

Other side dishes that they offered included tau kua, pig ears, picked vegetables and etc. Hearsay their picked vegetables are one of the best in town too but we overlooked it during ordering.

They only have limited tables in the shop lots and you may have to wait for some time during peak hour.
