Sri Wang Wantan Mee 老字号斯里旺云吞面 appears to be one of the time-honoured brand wantan mee in Sungai Petani, as the name suggests. Instead of running a stall in any food court in Sungai Petani or roadside, they have their own shoplot and it is just selling wantan mee solely. Judging by that, it must be one of the hidden gem for non-Kedahan like me.
A bowl of dried version wantan mee (RM 3.20 - small, RM 3.60 medium, RM4.00 big) comes with generous amount of green leafy vegetables, 2 pieces of wantan and chicken slices, replacing char siew as it was running out. I have come across other bloggers mentioning that they are using 南记 noodles, rendering the bowl of noodles extra elasticity.
The dried version of wantan mee has a fair balance between wetness and dryness. The chef used just the right amount of soy sauce to enhance the flavor of this wantan mee. The elusive scented noodles may be imparted by some special sauces being added during mixture, and this was revealed by the newspaper cutting pasted in front of the stall that 3 secret sauces were mixed. Though not the best mixture of wantan mee I have tasted, it certainly racks the list for original taste wantan mee lovers.
Lard oils were added to bring the wantan mee to another level of achievement. The superior size of the lard oil was amazing, to both the taste and my health as well.
The wantan needs some improvement though. The chef could have done a better job as the wantan was lacking of meat fillings and the skin was thick.
The shop is located quite a distance away from Sungai Petani main town, which requires extra effort if you were to go there.
