Noodles History Wantan Mee @ Alor Setar, Kedah

Most Alor Setar folks would be familiar with this family business wantan noodles – Noodle History. The shops are often packed with loyal patrons, and I have to make multiple trips here to try their specialty wantan noodles.

The best char siew ever

The wantan noodles in Alor Setar are marginally different compared to the other parts of the country. Egg noodles are being but it is topped with lesser amount of dark soy sauce, making its appearance clean and white. The egg noodles being used are slightly thicker in texture as well.

Though the shop sells wantan noodles, the extraordinary stimulant dish is actually the char siu (BBQ pork), and only if you order them separately. The char siu is a tad oily but just hit the mark of borderline, melting just nice on your tongue papillae. The chef creatively enhances the flavor of char siu by marinating it with their special sauce, and I could smell out honey from it. The whole plate of char siu is totally irresistible though the price could be a differential factor as a small plate of it cost RM6.00. A must try if you dine here but come early to prevent disappointment. I came at 1:30pm but was told the char siu almost finished.

The boiled chicken is another good dish to have if you are a heavy-taster. Spoons of sesame oil added making the taste overwhelming, though I personally felt it was inordinate. The lard cracklings are impossible to resists, even health conscious people may tempted just to take a few pieces and the concern comes later.

Their wantan noodles (RM5.50) is just a plain plate of noodles with little to offer. The char siu served on the wantan noodles are good, but still far from being able to match those char siu ordered separately. Trick of business huh?
