It wasn't an easy attempt to try Mee Goreng Jalil, as they may close anytime. We failed twice when we visited on Sunday, and the third time it was sold out at 6.30 pm during weekday. It is located at a makeshift stall at the shoulder of the Kenari Road in front Aswing Trading, with a small piece of white paper labeling Mee Jalil and cellphone number. You will see an old Malay uncle frying mee goreng meticulously using charcoal.
Mee Goreng (RM 4). This time, we have requested extra egg and spiciness as the first time we tried was mediocre. It turned out alot better, the noodles were more flavorful and moisture with the addition of egg. This plate of mee goreng may appear deceiving as it looked plain but the mild wok hei infused by the experienced chef during the frying process distinguished it from the other plain noodles. Â
Options to add reddish squids or just the sauce are available. We were not aware of this option until the chef showed us the squids and it looked tasteful.
Mee Rebus (RM 3.50) came with generous amount of potato and cucuk. The gravy emitted mild wok hei and the sweetness from tomato. It was then balanced with the saltiness came from soy sauce and sourness from lime.
