A new addition to Penang’s dessert scene, Buu Buu Dessert, brings a wholesome matcha-centric experience under one roof at The Courtyard, Beach Street, giving Penangites another delightful stop for desserts in the Georgetown area.

The menu focuses heavily on matcha-based desserts, with only two savoury options - Fruit Garden Salad and Zaru Cha Soba. Here, you will find nostalgic Japanese favourites such as Warabi Mochi, Dango, Raindrop Cake, Japanese Tiramisu, Matcha Mont Blanc, and Soufflé. The intimate dining space makes it more suitable for small groups rather than large gatherings. For a more relaxed experience and greater indulgence, it is best to avoid peak after-meal hours.

Matcha Warabi Mochi RM 16

Their Warabi Mochi is available in classic Kinako, Matcha, or Black Sesame flavours. We chose the matcha version, which was soft, comforting, and melt-in-the-mouth. Light and refreshing, it is an ideal dessert for Malaysians living in an all-year-round summer climate.

Choosing between the Mont Blanc and Soufflé was a dilemma, so we were glad to find a combination of both. The Kinshizuku Mont Blanc Soufflé features a soft, airy soufflé with a gentle egg aroma, crowned with delicate strands of freshly pressed chestnut cream prepared tableside. Finished with gold leaf, it looks elegant and refined. The addition of whipped cream and red bean paste further elevates the indulgence. For those who prefer a classic soufflé experience, you can add honey, matcha sauce, or berry jam on the side.

If you’re also a coffee or tea lover, the Matcha Espresso is worth trying. It was a bold and satisfying drink that pairs well with the desserts.
