Norm Micro Roastery @ Gat Lebuh Gereja, Penang

One of the hottest cafe in Georgetown, Penang ought to be Norm Micro Roastery. The industrial vibes and high ceiling of this chic cafe make it appealing to regular cafe hoppers and Instagrammers, on top of those coffee afficionados or furkid parents (yes, Norm Micro Roastery is a furkid friendly cafe!). Having said that, the cafe tends to be fully occupied during peak hours and waiting is a almost a norm. Nevertheless, the cafe crews attended to us in full courteous when we visited on a busy Saturday afternoon, and good food and coffee worth the wait too.

Finding the main door of Norm Micro Roastery may be a challenge if you are planning your first visit. The cafe is located opposite of Prestige Hotel with a dedicated car park lot for maximum a dozen of cars perhaps. No signage is visible even at the main door, but just push the large door that somehow appear to be a wall and you will arrive at the cafe.

Norm Micro Roastery has a small and no-frills 2 pages menu, feauturing mainly western dishes and coffee. Healthy choices such as salad are aplenty, but we opted for a more carbohydrated based diet as we were dead hungry. We enjoyed their Pumpkin and Prawn Rissoto (RM 32) much. The mushy sweet pumpkin blended flawlessly with the rissoto, along with a tad of earthy note introduced by the shimeji mushrooms and handful of herbs rendered the dish appealing. 

Another dish we had, Chicken Kaarage Burger (RM 25) did not disappoint too. Even though the chicken breast had undergo frying process but it still retained a nice moist texture. On top of that, the concoction of the condiments elevated the overall burger taste. Nevertheless, the burger buns lack the crispiness edge and it could have been better if a sesame seed burger buns were pan fried for this Chicken Kaarage Burger.

As the cafe name suggests, coffee is surely a hit thing at Norm Micro Roastery. Have your coffee in either white or black, though we realise the coffee cup here is relatively smaller. Neverhtless, they still make a picturesque item in your Instagram pictures. 

The cafe also has a range of desserts, some written on the menu while some are displayed at the paying counter. Our Brownies (RM 9) were nicely done and the creative drops of some salts on our brownies nicely neutralize the supposedly sweet taste of the cake.

Overall, we understand why Norm Micro Roastery has became an instant hit once it opens the door to public. The combination factor ambiance, food and coffee are enticing for both cafe hoppers or serious diners.
