Seafood Rooftop Dining @ Topspot Food Court Kuching

Have you ever thought of a seafood dinner at rooftop? Although it sounds absurd as rooftop dining usually reserved for romantic fine dining in sophisticated restaurants, but such setting does exist in Topspot Food Court Kuching. The rooftop food court hosts up to 10 different seafood stalls, separated into halal and non-halal section.

Apart from locals, many tourists enjoy going to Topspot to get a fix for their seafood crave. Therefore, we had a common fallacy that Topspot is a tourist scam with exorbitant price. However, we were wrong. Not only the seafood here is fantastic in taste, price is reasonable too.

As we take a careful look at the different stalls in Topspot, both our eyes and stomach were captivated by the beautiful display of seafood and vegetables by all of them. Immediately, we fall into a conundrum which stall to order. After some hesitation, we could not care less and simply head to a random table, then a crew handed us a menu with proper pricing for ordering.

Here is what we ordered:
1) Sea Clams Kong Po Style (RM 11)
2) Midin (RM 10)
3) Oyster Omelette (RM 17)
4) Red Snapper 800gm (RM 42)

We saw majority of tables seated ordered this gigantic and quirky looking fried thingy, which is Oyster Omelette in Topspot way. It is interesting aesthetically but nothing wonderful in terms of taste. If we were to describe the taste, it is like a greasy flour cracker with some dried oysters stuffed within which needs the sauce to rescue the flavour. However it is worth ordering for the sake of trying.

Another worthy mention dish is the Red Snapper. The flesh is flaky and fresh, then steamed to perfection by the chef. Somehow we feel the fishes here are worth trying.

Since you are here, remember to order the Sarawak Midin, a popular fern dish in Borneo. It is refreshing and crunchy in taste, and most likely free from pesticide as well because it is obtained in the wild.

Many patrons here go to the center of food court and order this giant cup of sugar cane or coconut drink. The grande size Pandan Coconut (RM 10) above is really addictive and almost tempted us go back for another cup!

Overall, a dinner in Topspot food court is worth the experience. The food is reasonably priced as well. To go in Topspot at the rooftop, park your car at UTC Kuching carpark, then take the lift straight to rooftop.
