Big Tree Eatery @ Arena Curve, Bayan Lepas, Penang

Big Tree Eatery is a new cafe established in Arena Curve, Bayan Lepas that offers a cozy and comfy environment for dining. On top of the spacious design, the cafe offers a tiny playground at the corner that allows your children to have a small party there while you enjoying your food. In terms of the food option, Big Tree Eatery offers pork free menu that focuses on primarily Western cuisine, snacks and a few selections of Asian Noodle with an average price tag. Personally, we enjoyed the food here, and the service crews stood out in terms of offering their impeccable service.

One item in the menu that caught our attention was Pan Seared Fish with Miso Sauce (RM 24.90). It comes with Pan Grill Fish Fillet served on top of the a bedding of generous quantity mashed potatoes, along with some sauteed mushrooms and baby spinach. The overall taste is above average, especially when we can taste the delicateness from bonito flakes and earthy flavour from sauteed mushrooms. Miso Sauce was something special which gave it the fish a nice sleek finishing, though at times we feel it was too salty for our liking.

One thing that could have been better was the fish texture as it was too soft, lacking the crispiness of the skin and flakiness of the flesh. Perhaps flooding it with sauce has rendered the texture became flaccid.

Another item we tried was Grilled Chicken Hor Fun (RM 12.90), which we added an onsen egg (RM 2.00). It was good and fried with decent char scent (wok hei), though the gravy may taste too salty. For the price of RM 12.90, it comes generously with 2 pieces of decent size grilled chicken. The additional of fried bean curds stick was a clever move that give the plate of hor fun some nice texture and pleasant aroma.

The Hor Fun has been fried by egg initially, and we just thought of having additional onsen egg for the sake of increasing its richness.

We were given a small slice of Brownie cake for trial and we enjoyed it. Perhaps next visit we could try more of their desserts.
