BIFF Square - Busan Heaven For Street Food

BIFF Square is a wonder place that packed with hundreds of street food in Busan, South Korea. BIFF Sqaure gets its name from Busan International Film Festival and is dedicated to host the annual BIFF. Various events such as hand printing of famous movie celebrities and Nunggot Jeomdeung (snow-flower lighting) will take place. Korean celebrities have their name signed here, emulating the concept of Hollywood Hall of Fame.

Recently, the square has expanded into a more like complex area. Movie theaters, shops and leisure facilities are aplenty within the vicinity of BIFF square. At the same time, street food vendors make a large presence in the square, ensuring you will leave here patting your stomach in satisfactory.

A friendly ajumma guided us to BIFF Square

Upon getting down from the Jagalchi metro station, we were in puzzle on how to get to BIFF Square. While gazing at our handphone for GPS direction to BIFF Square, an ajumma approached us and trying to understand what we were doing.

Language was the barrier for our communication. She was trying hard to explain how to get into BIFF Square upon learning we were heading there. However, we had problems to understand her Korean and she cannot speak English nor Chinese.

Out of sudden, she gently pulled Shirleen's hand and gesturing in a direction. We took it as a note that she was leading us to BIFF Square. After a short walk, we were there!

There were so many street food vendors when we reached BIFF Square! Tteok-bokki, gimbap, Korean desserts, ice cream, mandu and etc are within your grasp.

What we needed that time was probably a handful of Korean won, and a black hole stomach that can consume such enormous quantity food at one go.

Hotteok

Hotteok

One of the delicacy you must try in BIFF Square is Hotteok (1200 Korean Won) , a Korean Sweet Pancake made from wheat flour, water, milk, sugar and yeast then filled with a sweet mixture containing brown sugar, honey, chopped peanuts and cinnamon.

The first bite of the Hotteok packs a punch of pleasant aroma into my nostrils. Though it was served piping hot, I could not withstand the temptation to go for another bite. The taste was simply amazing!

We regretted for buying one piece of Hotteok only and ended up joining the long queue again to get another one.

Sadly we did not see Hotteok again when we were in Seoul.

Dakkochi (Korean Chicken Skewer)

The Korean Chicken Skewer shares a few similarities with Malaysia's Satay and that this provided us a justification to try it (a lame excuse!).

Waiting by the stall and inhale the grilling scent is torturing. I have to withheld my saliva from drooling.

Covered by a type of sauce (presumably go Gojuchang sauce), the skewer has a sweet taste but it was greasy. A watch out for those in need of controlling their diet!

The cup of fried chicken has tteokbokki in the bottom. The Tteokbokki was not starchy as compared to those we had in Malaysia. A good deal at 3000 Korean Won only.

BIFF Square compasses a large area that hosts different street food and eateries. Having multiple streets that intersect each others, we were kind of lost there.

The thought of having coffee stroke and we bumped across a pastry shop that offers Cafe Latte Bubble - a cup of latte with chewy taro balls. What an interesting combination.

Plenty of eateries and restaurants here await for you to explore.

The center of BIFF Square is unusually happening. Bustling of crowd can be seen here in the evening.

If you have some budget to spare, BIFF Square host plenty of fashion stores and cosmetic brands for you to get into the latest fashion trends. Almost every shops are full with customers.

During our visit, there were performers in the center of the square.

Tourist police is present for those who need help in guidance too.

If you walk around BIFF Square, you will see copper plate imprinted with footprint and handprints. Those are actually footprint and handprints of famous film stars. Though I do not know them but I am sure they held a prestigious position among the Koreans.
