Restro Uwong Palembang @ Elit Avenue, Bayan Baru, Penang

Restro Uwong Palembang is the latest eatery to join the dozens of food oulets in Elit Avenue Bayan Baru. As the name suggests, the restaurant serves authentic Indonesian food manned by Indonesians, and Indonesia food is an uncommon sighting in Penang F&B market somehow. While you can find some common Indonesian dishes here such as Gado-Gado, there are some specialty food such as Pempek, Tekwan and etc. are available on the menu too. It is good to treat our palate with some different taste to freshen it sometimes but we do feel certain food here is rather expensive.

Tekwan (RM 15.80) is a light dish featuring fish soup of Palembang style, fish cakes made from the dough of the fish and tapioca and a handful of vermicelli. It is refreshing, and the fish cakes are unique. Best for people who has a petite appetite.

Set Nasi Ayam Cabe Ijo (RM 18.80) is priced exorbitantly in our opinion. At the very first impression (attributed to the misleading pictures), we thought it would be a glamorous lunch set with the items on the menu - tauhu goreng (at least few pieces we thought), Emping (Indonesia chips) and Sayur Asem (Indonesia vegetable in tamarind soup) served separately in a generous quantity. However, what we got is a mini buffet platter with a bowl of white rice, served along with the Ayam Cabe Ijo (no doubt it was good), a few pieces of small Emping, a piece of tauhu goreng and a small bowl of Soto alike soup.

The Ayam Cabe Ijo, which is a nicely fried chicken whole leg marinated with green chili and various vegetables is delicious. Pairing it with the sambal nenas gives it a more spicy kick. However, the price tag RM 18.80 is still not justifiable.

Gado-Gado (RM 10.80) is alright with a generous quantity of vegetables, emping and tauhu. It would be great if the sauce was thicker and has a stronger peanut appealing. Sauces provided were insufficient to dress the Gado-Gado too.

On the other hand, the Black Coffee here is definitely on a mission to create a diabetic world. We could not tell whether it was a sugary drink or a coffee drink even.
