M'atural - A contemporary bonsai studio/cafe @ Lorong Carnavon, Penang - Crisp of Life

M'atural, a plant themed cafe that combines plants, tea and light food cafe sets a different path distinguish themselves from the mainstream cafes in Penang. The cafe regularly conducts plant related workshop, such as bonsai and etc. From the exterior facade, M'atural appears like a blue gate opening to a dwelling in forest, and the cafe interior s decorated with various plants. There is a small menu offers a range of snacks and drinks here.

Seat is pretty limited here but should be enough to cater for about 20 person at one go. For snacks, there are quiche and sweet pie.

We were attracted by a peculiar choice in the menu - Roasted Pork Belly (RM 15) quiche. The filling of the savoury pastry was alright, having crispy crust and soft filling but the roasted pork was too hard and dried to enjoy. Perhaps changing into the conventional cheese + bacon topping would be better.

The other sweet snack we had was Banana Cheese + Blueberry Sweet Pie (RM 12). The pastry was folded using the envelope technique, then had the sweet banana stuffed within and dressed with blueberry. Overall it worked well - the banana was sweet and the pastry was light. It is something that we are looking for should we need a comforting pastry.

Cheese Coffee (RM 13) is one odd creation as well. It combines the element of saltiness from cheese, which was then neutralized by the sweet bitterness of the caffeine. Probably might not be a hit amongst caffeine seeker but it is a nice drink overall.
