Many Penangites would have known this Street Grill (Burger Bakar Penang) that has been such a phenomenal in Penang. The extravaganza of cheese topping the patty big crowd, waiting time up to 3 hours can all be associated with the modest stall located outside of Honda Show Room along Jalan Sungai Penang. Coupled with the viral activities by various social media page, this Street Grill Burger has gone beyond control and turned the quiet road into a happening place at night.
There was a rainy night when the crowd was lesser at Street Grill Burger, and this made a wonderful opportunity for us to try this famous burger that almost made Penangite people upside down.
3 types of patties were being offered, namely Chicken, Mutton and Beef. Then you can opt for cheese (RM 1) or "cheese meleleh" (RM 2).
Both chicken and beef patty had an exclusive taste and nice texture that cannot be find elsewhere, which was a true reflection of the claim of their homemade patty. However, we felt there was an extra dose of salt being added during seasoning of patty, resulting an unpleasant aftertaste. Besides, our chicken patty was burnt.
Comparing chicken to beef, our preference lay with the chicken patty.
Topping of the cheese layer was great and served as an extra bonus for the burger. Not many can resist the temptation of such cheese layer but it is only nice if you eat the burgers during hot.
Overall, burger was nice but on a personal preference level, we would hoped for presence of onions and more shredded vegetables being added. One more thing we could not understand is the absence of egg. Bearing a premium price of RM 6.50 (normal chicken burger) yet egg was absence, this is something we could not understand.
