Sany/Lis Char Koay Teow @ Bayan Baru, Bayan Lepas, Penang

We have been living in Penang for the past twenty years (exceptional for a few years where we were in Borneo and KL) yet disgracefully, Malay Char Koay Teow has never strike our mind till recently. Thus, we prepared a list of Malay style Char Koay Teow and stroke them off from our list one by one, and Sany / Lis Char Koay Teow is the recent which hit our list.

Apparently, Sany Char Koay Teow is a popular destination for Char Koay Teow regardless of ethnic as attested by its crowd. The Char Koay Teow here can be ordered as biasa (regular) or special (more noodles and prawns).

Taste wise? Not bad for us, at least. The koay teow noodles are smooth, and comes with a decent wok hei. Gravy is more to a sweet side and gives a slightly oily texture which is acceptable. Portion is small so order two plates or special if you are really hungry. The prawns can be neglected.

We observed quite a number of patrons here have Nasi Goreng Ayam and that intrigued us to try it. A decent fried rice with nice fried chicken with tender meat and crisp skin, which is topped with chili sauce. In our humble opinion, the chili sauce somehow destroyed the good taste of the fried chicken.
