Meraki Coffee @ Island Plaza, Tanjung Tokong, Penang

Meraki Coffee is a new cafe established in Island Plaza, joining the few eatery outlets there. The cafe serves mainly sandwiches, salads, specialty coffees and other drinks such as milkshakes. Unlike majority of the cafes in Penang that operates surrounding a theme, Meraki Coffee serves more like a neighbourhood cafe, offering its guests a cozy environment to meet up with friends or enjoying the slothful evening.

The cake counter only offers 2 types of cakes during our visit but both of it were worthy try - Cempedak Cake (RM 15) and Cempedak Cheese Cake (RM 16.00). Though poorly presented, the cempedak cheese cake was impressive in the taste. It gives a strong yet pleasant cempedak flavor, and the overall taste is elevated when coupled with the creaminess of the cheese.

Matcha Latte (RM 14.00) was well executed too. The milk was not surfeiting and the matcha essence was nice.

All the sandwiches here are featured with ciabatta bread, a type of Italian white bread. As we were looking for something more stomach fulfilling, we had a Big Breakfast Sandwich (RM 22), which we thought ain't that big after all.

The ciabatta bread is decently executed with good moisture control and lightly crunchy, though we expected a more porous interior. Sandwiched between the ciabatta breads are breakfast chicken sausage, beef bacon, egg, Australian cheddar cheese, grilled mushrooms and tomatoes. It gives a very light tasting sandwiching and suitable for those who opt for a not heavy meal.
