港式八點鐘 Hong Kong 8am @ Lorong Macalister, Georgetown, Penang

There ain't many self proclaimed Hong Kong style "Cha Chan Teng" in Penang with the exception of a few restaurant in the malls and the modest dim sum restaurants scattered across Georgetown. However, the recent opening of 港式八點鐘 Hong Kong 8am at Lorong Macalister has provided Penangites an opportunity to savour some Hong Kong style delicacies. While we thought the price competitive, the menu is limited in choices and enough for us to finish in one visit...

Since we have not been to Hong Kong physically to try their authentic wanton noodles, we were happy to order a Dry Pork Noodles (RM 7.90) to try. The price tag is indeed affordable, noodles were cooked to al-dente but we felt the dark soy sauce were too overwhelming (see the colour of the noodles). The pork cutlet is generous in size, though it was over seasoned with salt. For the overall serving size, probably one adult will feel it does not really fill up the stomach capacity.

Shrimp Dumpling (RM 6.90) is a good bargain here. The dumpling skin is thin and filling is rich. Coupled with a savoury soup, we thought the overall taste is great.

Then it comes to two favourite items in the typical Hong Kong Cha Chan Teng - Egg Tarts (RM 2.20) and Butter Polo Bun (RM 3.50). The egg tart was averagely okay, though we hoped for a crispy crust. The Butter Polo Bun was a slight down though. It felt like a soggy bread coated with crispy crust only, and the crystalline sugar felt throughout the eating was a big no-no.

Then we had a Frozen Milk Tea (RM 3.90), 8am Blend (RM 4.90) and 8am Hot Coffee (RM 2.50). The frozen milk tea is aromatic, while the 8am is unique in the sense it carries a nice cinnamon flavour.

Overall we thought 港式八點鐘 Hong Kong 8am serves as a great spot to drop by for some light Hong Kong style breakfast with an affordable price tags. The taste is averagely okay but with the price we paid for it, we were contended.
