Tek Sen Restaurant @ Lebuh Carnavon, Penang

Tek Sen is quite an old and branded Zhu Cha in penang. Their shop used to be called Teik Seng. Since they have moved to their new shop at Lebuh Carnavon around 5 years ago, they have renamed themselves to Tek Sen. Presently they have two shop lots to cater the demand but still maintaining the quality of their food. We always notice their restaurant filled with patrons, not only the locals but tourist as well when we made the shortcut to Chulia Street through Carvanon Street,. We love their home cook style dishes which offers a very bold flavor. Those who have tried always rate them as one of the top Zhu Cha in Penang, just that it is more on the pricey side.

Asam Prawn (RM 28) for 3 pieces of well marinated prawn. The asam scent was greatly encapsulated inside the prawn. We notice they have pan fried the prawn to evaporate the asam paste in sticky form so that it soaked and attached on the prawn's skin. This could be the best asam prawn we have tried so far.



Kang Kung with sambal (RM 10) was less fascinating than the others, probably due to the sambal.


Clam cooked with spring ginger (RM 12), the sauce was a great compliment for the white rice. Clam was very fresh and chewy, the ginger was a perfect match and refreshing.


They have 3 choices for their soup of the day and we thought the Black Soup/Rehmannia root Soup (RM 10), one of the Chinese Herb soup was kind of uncommon. It came with pork ribs, rosemary and some herbs. The broth was thick and mesmerizing.
