Tang Yen & Kuey Chiap @ Bee Hong Cafe, Penang

I believe most of the elders would surely recognize this stall, because this authentic Tang Yen stall has been existed for at least 60 years. It has been passed on to the 4th generation now and still keeping to their humble stall's size. There is an uncle and aunty running the stall only and they stressed on handmade. While aunty constantly prepare the orders, uncle always busy kneading the dough and turns them glutinous balls in order to cater the demands.

They offer two kinds of filing for their big tang yuan which are peanut and sesame. I would say the glutinous was smooth, chewy and wasn't crumbly at all.

Perfectly kneading basic glutinous balls (RM 3.7) , with the basic yet the-must-have colors of red and white. I can taste that they have used a lot of fresh gingers to make this piping hot ginger soup.

Besides the long history Tang Yuan, we noticed this stall sellng Thai Koay Chiap. We were not a fans of Koay Chiap, but out of curiosity we tried it. We were not able to tell the difference between this Thai version versus the local one, but it certainly change our impression towards Koay Chiap. The soup is clear without the strong porky scent, We just able to accept some pork organs, so we ordered lean meat, pork belly and intestine. The rice flake noodle were silky thin, nicely blend with the soup.
