If you must know, Hai Beng Coffee Shop in Stewart Lane is reported to been the birthplace of Lor Mee in Penang. The shop is located beside, or some say opposite of Kuan Imm Teng (Temple of Goddess of Mercy), and still retained its archaic exterior.Â

They serve Hainanese style Lor Mee here. In fact, we are unsure what are the real differences between Hainanese Lor Mee and Hokkien style Lor Mee but we can tell the Lor Mee broth here is less gooey comparing to the usual ones we had. The starchy broth does not coagulate together, and has a piquant and subtle spiced taste. For a boast of flavor, there are vinegar garlic sauce and chili sauce on each table at your disposal. Â
