The Eatery in Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Tanjung Bungah has just launched a series of new dishes to their classic favourite ala carte menu. Lead by Executive Chef Ismail, the new revamp menu features some local favourite dishes to allow the guests savour the best of Malaysia's cuisine, alongside with some popular western dishes. Therefore, guests get to experience a variety of delicious European-Oriental inspired dishes, which further enriched with local spices at The Eatery.

"We are experimenting with flavours and would like to push the envelope by infusing local Malaysian dishes with a touch of European flavours," said Chef Ismail. "One of the recommendations would be the Rendang Pahlawan "Temasik", a braised Black Angus beef fillet cooked in brown coconut chili paste with wild turmeric leaf infusion, served with steamed rice, pickled vegetables and fish crackers. The dish is tweaked by adding local spices which give it an exotic, oriental taste," je added. Chef Ismail has introduced 16 new dishes and below are some of the delicacies:

The Insight

The casual, fun and lively signature restaurant of Four Points by Sheraton Penang, The Eatery is an excellent beachfront relaxation spot for small-get-together and coffee connoisseurs with 2 dining spaces: a vibrant dining indoors and a scenic al fresco dining at the outdoor. This dining space not only offering extensive ala carte menu, but also delicious breakfast of freshly baked deli, and of course widespread selections of dinner buffet during the weekend. On top of that, this space is able to be boasted up to 140 persons capacity.

Just a little insight on the ala carte dishes offered at hotel settings. While you may be thinking why there are people willing to fork out RM 35.00 for a bowl of Hainan Chicken Chop in a hotel restaurant, yet you can get it for around RM 15.00 at hawker settings. In fact, this circumstances ain't any enigma.

It is generally true there are certain expectations when dining in hotel restaurant, such as services, quality assurances, hygiene, environment or even portion size, the another secluded fact will be the ingredients used. For instance, instead of some plain rice being used, the hotel restaurant might be using aromatic rice such as Jasmine rice to yield an exceptional aroma dish.

To warm up our palatal for the array of dishes later, we started with something light and appetizing - Smoked Salmon Paillard (RM 38.00). The salmon are properly cut into thin slices, then seasoned with balsamic dressing and shaved parmesan to give a balance of creamy and zesty taste. It is then garnished with rocket salad, roasted plum potatoes, capers and berries.

Wild Mushroom Soup (RM 18.00)
Following a conventional table manners, we had some soups after the appetizers. The roasted pumpkin soup is impressive, it is creamy and sweet, with a spinach ravioli concealed within the soup. Wild mushroom soup on the other hand provides a sensation on the naturalness of mushroom.

We have to say that the Hainan Classic Chicken Chop (RM 35.00) is outstanding. Served with aromatic garlic fried rice topped with peas sprout salad, the deep fried deboned chicken chop is superior in taste. When eating it alone, the crisp and juicy of the chicken chop is irresistible, and the flour coating is just done on the right level. Coupled with the Oriental BBQ Sauce, it elevates the crisp chicken by introducing a tad of sweetness.

What if the Malay authentic cuisine been elevated with  western ingredient? Chef Ismail has introduced Rendang Pahlawan "Temasik". By using black angus beef fillet, braised it in brown coconut chili paste with wild turmeric leaf infusion. Such a nice rendang dish shall complement with steamed rice and some vegetable, pickles. Small tips, crunch the crackers with your palm and scatter it all over your rice before savouring it.

Oh who do not love pasta? With 5 different options on the pasta menu, it is hard to juggle which shall we pick. For seafood ardent lovers, Gambroni (RM 45.00) should be the choice as it is served with 4 pieces of delicious and fresh tiger prawns. The spicy plum tomato sauce provide a touch of sweetness and surprisingly, a tad spiciness to the pasta. Garnished with Fresh Italian Basil and Arugula Leave, it channels some peppery and a humble of bitterness that breaks the sweetness just nice. 

The Carbonara which is served with crispy beef slices did not go wrong with its creaminess. Even though it was cold when the moment we had it because we spent too much time on photography session, it still make us surfeited. 

Of course, you do not have to necessary enjoy the pasta with just spaghetti noodles like we did. Other than spaghetti, match it with Penne, Linguine or Pappardelle.

Chef Ismail shared to us that Sloppy Joe Burger (RM 45.00) is the all time favourite in the Eatery. It has a fresh and moist minced Australian Beef Patty, beef bacon, double cheese and onion marmalade topped with fried egg, served with Brioche Bun. The patty itself is delicious and juicy, and we felt too much of the black pepper might overwhelm the patty in fact.

Pizza

The Italian style Diavola Pizza (RM 35.00) is specially wood oven baked and packed with a bunch of toppings such as chicken chorizo, red peppers, Spanish onions and chili flakes that give it a pleasant hot sensation. While we enjoyed the thin crust and base, we hope it would be firmer on the base to hold all the ingredients well.

Overwhelmed with all the selections on the mains menu such as rib-eye steak, salmon "meincure", chicken peri-peri and etc, we had to settled only for Lamb Shank "Provancale" (RM 65.00), the newly introduced dish due to limited stomach. The lamb was prepared to tender and juicy, and a tad of the double braised thyme jus is nice to lift up the taste. We love how nice the mashed potatoes were prepared. The lamb taste is slightly pungent but eating the lamb cut with mashed potatoes somehow just yield a perfect mixture.

The desserts presentation are self explanatory. Such an elegant display just tempted us to savour more of it, even though the stomach has reached its maximum limit. The taste is great, and although we expected the desserts to be sweet, it was nice on the level and not grossly sweet to kill the appetite. Even the people whom does not have a sweet tooth like me was enjoying the tiramisu and brownie bar.
