The Light Hotel Penang has rolled out a buffet themed "Kampungku Citarasaku" in conjunction with the Ramadan month. During this holy month, Spice Brasserie at the Light Hotel has transformed to recreate the atmosphere of the kampung reminiscent of family togetherness, and full with aroma and flavour of traditional kampung cuisine.

We were deeply impressed with the array of more than 120 selection of authentic local and international cuisine at Spice Brasserie and Garden Terrace (Level 3) at the Light Hotel, thanks to the tremendous work by a brigade of 10 specialty chefs, led by Chef Murugan Balakrsihan (Senior Executive Sous Chef) and Chef Ismail Ibrahim (Executive Sous Chef).

Be enticed with the range of main dishes which compromise of Malay, Chinese and Indian traditional cuisine, reflecting the culture essence of Malaysia. As mentioned early, the main dishes will be rotated on a daily basis and we loved the varieties of curry dishes. Some of them were real spicy hot but it was real appeasing.

A few highlights for Malay dishes would be Rendang Daging Lembu, Masak Lemak Telur Itik, Ayam Percik Madu, Sotong Masak Lemak Tempoyak, Gulai Udang dengan Nenas while squid varuval, chicken vindaloo spicy fish roes are those to be sampled in Indian counter.

Not to forget the mountainous load of Nasi Biryani with different ingredients.

Head over to their local salad counter and pamper yourself with Nasi Impit drizzled with sweet peanut sauce, different types of Lemang (Lemang Pulut Hitam, Lemang Biasa, Lemang Pulut Kuning) accompanied with 3 types of Serunding. Alternatively, the lemang also goes well with curry ayam cincang.

Besides, the local traditional salad, ulam is there with a variety of aromatic spicy sambal to spice up the taste. Thern there are 7 types of kerabu to be chosen from for appetizers.

For those who fancy grilled items should go and check out the carvery station for their succulent and perfectly roasted lambs with condiments. The lamb is prepared using Arab cuisine techniques, whereby hint of spices and yoghurt can be scented within the aromatic tender meat.

Just in case you have a strong affection toward the dishes that you see daily, head to their live action station. Sample the Malaysian's all time favorite - roti canai with dalcha or chicken curry, or go for the sri lanka roll (roti canai cheese rolls).

Noodles connoisseurs can opt for a bowl of noodle soup, which will feature a different noodle soup daily or order the famous Penang Char Koay Teow. End the meal with a bowl of ice kacang with 15 types of condiments.

Completing the Ramadan culinary journey by sinking yourself into the sweet stuff, as Spice Brasserie offers more than 50 types of traditional Malay Kuih-Muih like Tapai Ubi, Tapai Pulut, Kuih Saji, Ajam Kelapa, Kuih Bahulu, Kuih Tiram, Dodol and etc. Certain common desserts such as bread and butter pudding, apple crumbles, cakes are offered as well, alongside with seasonal local fruits.
