Of the 5 different restaurants located at Lot 33, sub-basement of Prangin Mall, Imperial Chinese Cuisine is renowned for serving exquisite and delicate cuisine. Being an orthodox Chinese restaurant, almost everything here from the settings, service, servers and food typify lavishness. The restaurant's name suggested the chefs used premium ingredients to prepare the dishes, letting diners enjoy the best of the day while relishing on its imperial style delicacies.

For the dish Braised Abalone with Rice (RM 45.00), the sole big abalone topping the rice is more than enough to signifying its nobleness. Judging from the abalone size, it should be high quality and expensive. When the plain rice was totally drenched in abalone juice, it was no longer ordinary rice. Every scoop of the rice was too precious till dropping a few grains of it would be considered as great wastage.

Braised Duck with Yam Soup (RM 38.00) is the dish that really tested the chef's kung fu. The yam is stewed to achieve its desire softness, then only the duck is added to the let the chemistry works. We enjoyed the soft and tender braised duck, and the yam's essence has infused and blended well with the duck meat. A handful of parsley is then added to garnish the dish.

The Imperial Style Fried Bean Curd (RM 38.00) is topped with a special sauce, formulated from a mixture of soy sauce, oyster sauce and roasted black bean sauce. Coupled with the minced meat, it complements the soft fried bean curd splendidly. Be wary as there are some hidden chili slices in the sauce, enough to catch you in surprise and give you a choke.

We were caught in surprise when the server brought us the Special Coke Pork Knuckle (RM 42.00). It was served in a basket alike plate, mimicking the ladies in the imperial palace carrying the dishes to the king's chamber. The Pork Knuckle is braised for 2 hours, ensuring the tough connective tissues in the pork knuckles are broken down to give it a tender texture. At the meantime, the cooking sauce intermingles with the pork knuckles, creating a unique and appeasing taste.

The restaurant also serves unique Deep Fried Hor Fun (RM 28.00). Contrary to the popular preparation method, the hor fun is first deep fried to give it a crispy texture, to the extent a light crackling sound can be heard when biting the hor fun. The deep fried hor fun then is topped with clams, prawns and vegetables, then drenched with nicely scented starchy gravy.

We were introduced to this newly invented dish - Caramelige Lotus Root (RM 12.00). It is best eaten when it was served, otherwise the caramel will stick onto your teeth surfaces. Surprisingly, the combination of caramel and lotus root worked perfectly, yielding a sweetened version of lotus root. If you missed to enjoy it when it was served, wait till it gets cold entirely to prevent the caramel sticking. At this time, the caramel provides a coating layer onto the lotus roots, giving it a crisp texture.
