Container Hotel @ Ipoh, Perak

Previously, our trips to Ipoh, the once tin mining city in Malaysia are often limited to day trips. We woke up in the wee hours in the morning, driving across the North-South Expressway with the half awake eyes and reached Ipoh within 2 hours, then continue the journey with tonnes and food and depart back to Penang in the late evening with a tired body.

This is the life of a budget traveler. We need to control the expenditure to the minimum level. An average accommodation would easily cost RM100 minimum then.

Nonetheless, the introduction of Container Hotel at Ipoh has allowed us to park ourselves at night there and enjoy some supper. Thanks to its affordable price, we booked a mixed pod during launching for RM18.50, and currently the price stands as below:

Mixed Pod (fits one person) - RM 45.00
Mixed Pod Plus (fits 2 adults & 1 children) - RM 81.00

All female pods are offered too for the comfy of single female travelers.

As the name implies, it is a container hotel thus what given was a bed in a container. Nevertheless, spacious place was provided and claustrophobic people should be fine staying here. A blind is provided for privacy purposes but please do not change clothes inside the container.

Okay, this is how the "room" looks like when there is an occupant inside. Please ignore the guy in the picture as he cannot wake up in the morning and delay the whole trip. There is an electric socket provided, meaning to say if you have a camera, a handphone or an Ipad to charge, then you will be in problem. We asked the hotel staff for adapter plug and unfortunately they do not have any.

Sound proof is basically non existence. If it happens that some not understanding guests checking in during your sleep time, then be prepared to get a sleepless night. Fortunately for us, our stay went well.

A recycle bag with a bottle of mineral water and towel is provided. It would be better if toiletries set such as toothbrush and toothpaste are provided for the ease of travelers.

The toilets are shared among all the tenants at Container hotel but there are only 4 toilets per floor. During our one night stint there, the toilet on second floor is always occupied and we resorted to go to the toilet on 3rd floor. We imagine there might be a little hassle if the hotel is fully occupied.

A small slider is located on the first floor, enables you to get to the first floor without going through the staircase! We have tasted it and no people will stuck in it, we guess?

So does the stay worth the money? It is a very subjective questions. Unless you experience it yourself, you would not know. Nevertheless we still glad that it provides the travelers another option to stay at Ipoh, in a rather affordable price.
