Ghee Seng Tom Yam & Seafood @ Weld Quay, Penang

Updated on 28th Sept, 2016

Tucked away from the bustling Pangkalan Weld, a modest Thai Seafood shop called Ghee Seng hidden under the apartment-like building call Wisma KGN. Parking might be challenging there. But this simple coffee shop has authentic Thai cuisine. Their dishes does give me a sense of home cook.

The must try dish in their menu is this Siam Bak (RM 7), literally Thai meat in hokkien. Sliced pork belly marinated in fermented bean curd, topped with shredded onion, chilli, shallot and sweet and sour sauce. The kick from the onion and the appetizing sauce makes this dish finger licking good.

Steamed Clam (RM 16)

Chili Clam

Their Steamed Clam captured the freshness of the clam with the condiments of ginger and chili, while the chili version best for someone yearning for bold.

Deep fried fish with black sauce, onion and chili (RM 24). The fish was crisp, soaked with the black sauce, exuding a little of spicy with the great balance of saltiness. The raw onion given it a level of bright and crisp addition.

Their signature seafood Tom Yam (RM 20) was more towards sour side, cooked with real stuff.

Youtiao with salad sauce.
